About

I fell in love with art and art history as a child, and grew up in a bedroom plastered with my own ‘artwork’ - ! Since those early days, I have been lucky enough to be mentored by Ann Heat senior member of the RBA, and am now best known for my oil paintings of still life and rural scenes. I’ve been described as ‘a traditional painter with rustic charm’ - I hope that’s true! I show regularly in galleries across the south of the UK. I’ve sold internationally, through auction, and through many art and decorative living fairs, and have raised over £600 so far through art sales to help Ukraine.

I’m constantly drawn to the discipline and beauty of still life painting and the challenge that that potential conflict presents. My flipside to that is walking in the Sussex hills, photographing sheep and cows for later paintings that provide an antidote to jugs and flowers!

My painting process employs thin layers of paint to create harmonies in a muted palette, using a tonal approach to convey my emotional connectivity with the subject. I hope that the viewer will experience this connectivity too, feeling the quietude of each scene.

‘I got my gorgeous painting today and I love, love, love it. You are incredibly talented and thank you for sending the painting so quickly. I adore it.’

‘Oh my goodness your amazing painting arrived today. It’s even more beautiful than the photos, if that’s possible.’
Catherine James, near Glasgow, Scotland.
